FAQ

FAQ

  • Do I need any prior experience to join?

Not at all. Our classes are specifically designed to be welcoming and accessible to beginners, regardless of your fitness background or experience level. Whether you're completely new to self-defence or returning after a break, our skilled instructors will guide you step-by-step, adjusting the pace and techniques to match your comfort and confidence.

  • What kind of self-defence do you teach?

We teach practical, real-world self-defence through the Krav Maga system — a proven and adaptable martial art used by civilians, security professionals, and military forces worldwide. Our approach covers everything from physical techniques to situational awareness and mental readiness, giving you the tools to protect yourself effectively.

  • Will this help me get fit?

Yes! Self-defence training is a fantastic full-body workout that improves strength, stamina, coordination, and overall fitness — all while you’re learning essential life skills. Many students find it far more engaging and fulfilling than traditional gym routines.

  • How often should I train?

To build momentum and see steady progress, we recommend starting with at least two sessions per week. As your fitness, confidence, and skills grow, you can increase your training frequency to accelerate results and deepen your knowledge.

  • Is this suitable for women?

Absolutely. Many of our members are women seeking to improve their personal safety, boost confidence, and develop both mental and physical strength. We pride ourselves on creating a respectful, inclusive, and empowering training environment where everyone can thrive and progress at their own pace.

  • What if I’m not fit or haven’t exercised in a long time?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need to be in shape to get started — you’ll get in shape through consistent training. Our classes are scalable and non-intimidating, designed to help you build fitness, flexibility, and confidence gradually, with support every step of the way.

  • Is self-defence only about fighting or physical moves?

Not at all. While physical techniques are important, true self-defence also involves awareness, de-escalation skills, understanding your legal rights, and avoiding potentially dangerous situations altogether. Our comprehensive training covers all of these critical aspects to help you stay safe both physically and mentally.

  • What should I wear to class?

We require all students to wear our official club uniform — a T-shirt and training trousers. Wrestling shoes are recommended for indoor mats. For your safety and progression, we also advise wearing protective gear such as a groin guard, MMA gloves, and for regular training, boxing gloves, headgear, and a mouthguard.

  • Is there a minimum age to join?

Our adult Krav Maga classes are open to individuals aged 15 and above (with parental consent for minors). For younger participants, we offer specialised children's martial arts programs through our sister site: www.123martialarts.co.uk. Please contact us to find the right age group and schedule for your child.

  • How do I get started?

It’s easy to begin your journey. Simply book a free 10-minute consultation call with us. It’s a relaxed, no-obligation chat where we’ll get to know your goals, answer any questions, and explain how our training works — so you can take the first step with clarity and confidence.
